Steven Gerrard is close to returning as Rangers manager this week after positive talks were held.

Gerrard is in London to hold talks over a sensational return to Rangers where he lifted the Scottish Premiership title as manager in 2021 which was the club’s last league title.

The Scottish giants are set to appoint the former Liverpool and England midfielder following Russell Martin’s sacking on Sunday after a dismal start to the season which leaves them 8th in the league table.

Now, journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that both parties are very close to an agreement, which could be announced over the weekend.

“Understand Rangers are now close to a total agreement with Steven Gerrard to return to Ibrox.

“Gerrard held positive face-to-face talks with chairman Andrew Cavanagh and vice-chairman Paraag Marathe in London on Thursday.”

After 123 days in the job, Martin was sacked on Sunday after a 1-1 draw at Falkirk, leaving Rangers 1 points adrift of leaders Hearts and nine behind rivals Celtic. Gerrard’s appointment should bring stability and he will aim to rapidly turn the club around if appointment.

Rangers return to action next Saturday as they host Dundee United at Ibrox in the league in what could be Gerrard’s first game in charge in what should be a warm welcome at home.
