Ekitike, who cost an initial £69M, is currently Liverpool's second most expensive signing this summer, following Wirtz’s £116M move from Bayer Leverkusen in what was a club and British record fee that is likely to be the biggest deal ahead of the new season.
Having played against Ekitike in the Bundesliga whilst he played for Frankfurt, Wirtz will now be tasked with teeing up the French forward at Liverpool in a newly shaped side that looks incredible on paper and has impressed in preseason with two wins over La Liga side Athletic Bilbao on Monday afternoon.
Wirtz opened up on Ekitike who he thinks is a fantastic talent that he is happy to playing alongside someone who can supply goals as well as feed off of.
"He is a really good player," Wirtz said. "(He was) a joy to watch at Frankfurt and I was really happy he signed to come to us.
"In the training sessions already, he went well and also today in the game, we had some combinations that were good. I am really happy that I can play with him.
"I think it is good that we have a few players that came in the same time. We can connect and talk to each other, and that helps when you come to a new team."
Both players made their Anfield debuts against Athletic Bilbao on Monday night in the later game in which the likes of Milos Kerkez, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah all started in a 3-2 victory thanks to a Gakpo brace and cool Salah finish.
Wirtz believes that the influx of new players arriving simultaneously is actually beneficial and will only help The Reds in their race to defend the Premier League title against the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea.
"Yeah, I think it's good that we have a few players that come in at the same time," said Wirtz. "We can connect a little bit and talk to each other about how we feel, and it helps us all coming into the team."
