A torrid run of nine defeats in 12 had left Newcastle languishing in 15th place before they beat Brighton over the weekend in what was an impressive 3-1 win.
After the game, reports state that Newcastle chief Yasir Al-Rumayyan made his way to the dressing room area to reassure both squad and staff that there was a bright future ahead as they look towards next season.
Sky Sports also report that Howe emerged from a meeting at Matfen Hall on Thursday believing that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund are still committed to the ambitious vision set out when they took control in October 2021.
Howe, safe for now, is set to lead the side into the new campaign as they aim to push towards the European spots and back into the Champions League.
Speaking to The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer revealed that he will be happy to see any rumours about Howe’s future put behind him as he receives backing.
"What I did say was that, all things being equal, I want him to be there but he has to want to be there himself,” Shearer said. "I gather the meeting they had, because all the top brass were in Newcastle last week for two or three days, by all accounts went really well for both parties.
“That tells me that if it is true, and I gather it is, Eddie was happy with what he heard and they were happy with what they heard from Eddie as well. If there's one manager who deserves the chance to go again and say, 'Ok, we've had a bad season, fine.”
“Recruitment hasn't helped last summer, we all know that, and it has been a really tough season. The quicker it ends for Newcastle, the better, so they can start planning for next season. I am pleased that, if it is true and sounds like it is, that Eddie is going to be at the helm to do that.”
Newcastle next face Nottingham Forest as they aim to jump up the table into the European spots with just 3 games remaining.
