Premier League legend Alan Shearer says he would not believe it if Newcastle were pulled into the relegation fight.

Newcastle’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal last weekend marked their fifth loss in a row in all tournaments as manager Eddie Howe desperately scrambles for 3 points in 14th place.

The Magpies face Forest and West Ham in their last four games, two teams fighting against relegation at the bottom of the table.

Predictions have been made that if Howe’s side continues their run of form, they could be pulled into a relegation fight despite being tipped for a European spot this season.

This time last year, Newcastle United had just won their first domestic trophy for 70 years and now the club could potentially be in for a fight at the bottom of the table.

Speaking to Betfair, Shearer admitted that it would shock him if his former side did collapse in the final 4 games.

“I'd be amazed if Newcastle got dragged into the relegation fight. Saying that with Spurs winning eventually last weekend and Leeds are winning, Forest are winning, West Ham are winning it is not ideal.

“I do think there was a slight improvement last week against Arsenal. I think Bruno makes a huge difference to Newcastle's team, in terms of what he gives them.

“So no, I don't think they'll get dragged into a relegation battle. Having said that, that doesn't mean there's no concern of what's happened this season.”

Howe's side have now lost each of their last four matches in the Premier League, and nine out of their last 12. Things are looking bleak for the club and they must start to pick up 3 points if they want to avoid disaster.
