Legendary striker Alan Shearer has shared what Arsenal manager Mikel can do to get the best out of striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres has bagged three goals in the first four matches for The Gunners as he shrugged off his critics who believed that he would not succeed in the Premier League after making his move to North London this summer.

His third came against Nottingham Forest, as Arsenal crushed new manager Ange Postecoglou’s side 3-0 in what was a relentless performance. Despite his fine start, Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Shearer has revealed how Arteta can get even more out of the striker, who looks well adapted to the English top flight already.

"I think the key to getting the best out of Gyokeres is early balls into the box.

"It’s a really fine balance because you’ve got (Eberechi) Eze and you’ve got (Noni) Madueke, whose game and big strength is going past players and being brilliant at doing that. But, I also think sometimes you don’t have to do it."

Gyokeres had a simple finish for his second-half strike thanks to Eze's first assist in an Arsenal shirt, and Shearer believes it is exactly those types of passes which will set up the experienced striker for more goals under Arteta.

"The early ball kills defenders as well, and I think sometimes that’s the brightest thing to do, rather than beat and check and do all that. So, there’s a fine balance, but I do think to get the best out of Gyokeres, they need early balls into the box.

"You saw that straight after half-time again: ball in behind and first time into the box, Eze, one touch finish for Gyokeres, and I think that’s what he’s going to thrive on. They looked really good yesterday, Arsenal. I thought it was an impressive performance."
