Former Manchester United and France star Louis Saha has spoken on the form of Chelsea's Liam Delap.

Since his £30M move from Ipswich in the summer, Delap has been widely criticized for not quite hitting the mark in West London.

Delap has failed to convince fans so far, scoring just twice in 23 appearances, with his last goal coming in a 2-1 defeat at Fulham in early January.

Speaking to CasinoHawks, Saha has opened up on the 23-year-old who he believes made the move to Chelsea at the wrong time.

“It's the problem with football. You can't really predict which coaches' style will fit a striker or player best. That's what we've seen. Delap is a terrific talent, and I think he could have really shined at Chelsea, but for some reason, it hasn't happened. Joao Pedro came in, and it's a different style.

“It doesn't mean the player isn't good or couldn't have done really well at any other club. It's just sometimes there's bad timing, a wrong momentum. You come in, you miss a chance, and then the confidence goes.

“This is why I think when you look at United, you can see that it's about having six, seven, eight players on top form that elevate the other players, not the opposite.

“It's not about having four or five who are really good and hoping they elevate the rest, that's impossible. We have to have a good squad, full of confidence, playing well. And then, you can really help those players who are maybe not as confident to shine.

“It would be the same with Delap if he was at Man Utd, if the team confidence is low then his would be too, but when they are winning everyone improves together.”

Delap has scored just one goal in the Premier League this season and the pressure is building on the young striker who may regret joining Chelsea, who will not wait around for him to find form again.
