Arsenal will be top of the Premier League table once more on Christmas Day after a simple win over Everton at the weekend.
However, both Liverpool and Manchester City also picked up 3 points in what is shaping up to be a very close title race.
City remain the leading contenders to catch Arsenal, with the side just 2 points away from the North London club.
Speaking on his BBC podcast, Rooney was asked about who he thinks will win the title and admitted that nobody should rule out the Reds.
“It looks like Arsenal and Man City are going to be the two to break away at the top of the Premier League now.
“Liverpool as well though, if they got a run of form and win a few games you never rule them out,” he added. “If they get that support behind them, they can have a say.”
“I wouldn’t rule them (Liverpool) out. But Arsenal and City are the two I think will break away. Aston Villa have done fantastic but I think it will be one of the top two.”
Only 17 of the 33 Premier League teams who were top at Christmas went on to become champions. Arsenal were top in 2022 and 2023 but of course won neither title in two statistics which will worry manager Mikel Arteta.
