The Premier League is set to move away from its long-standing Boxing Day tradition by scheduling just one fixture.

According to a new report from The Times, the long-standing Boxing Day football tradition may be at risk this season.

With 26 December falling on a Friday, nine fixtures are expected to be postponed to the weekend, Saturday 27 December and Sunday 28 December, as well as Monday 29 December.

If this occurs, it would mark the fewest top-flight matches played on Boxing Day since the Second World War.

The report says that there may only be one Premier League fixture on Boxing Day this year due to broadcast contracts, although the dates and times for the games are yet to be decided.
