West Ham United manager Graham Potter has spoken to the media as he prepares to take on Crystal Palace this weekend.

West Ham haven’t enjoyed a good start to the season, picking up just one win in their four games, so far. Meanwhile, Palace have gone 16 games unbeaten, not experiencing a defeat since April. This is another huge test for Potter, whose job is under major threat as his side sits in the relegation zone.

Potter addresses club statement after poor start

He first commented on the club’s recent statement to fans in which they admitted that "nobody at the club is satisfied" with the club’s start.

"I think you have to do lots of things in this job. You have to build and you have to develop but you also have to win.

"I think it's fair to say we have not done that as much as we would have liked and when you don't do that as much as you'd like there is always pressure and negativity.

"At the end of the day this job is a fantastic job and an important job at an amazing football club with an incredible fan base and ambition and if you want to do something good then it is going to be difficult and that is the nature of the job in the highest league in the world.

"If you think it's going to be easy, it isn't, you have to build, develop and win."

Fan communication is imperative

Potter next spoke on the club being open with it's fans, who are growing increasingly frustrated with the team's performances in what looks to be another underwhelming season.

"In every football club if you don't win there is always noise, pressure and criticism and that is fair, it is the world we are in.

"Everybody wants West Ham to do well, the fans do, the players do, me and my staff do and the board do. We are all on the same page in terms of how much we love the club and how much we want them to do well, we are all hurting the same.

"We have to try and stick together - which we will - because that is part of this club, but at the same time you have to hear when there is criticism."

What Potter wants to see from his team

A loss this weekend could mean the end for Potter as West Ham boss. He revealed what he wants to see from his team who must perform to save his job which is hanging by a string.

"In the Premier League it is difficult to control the game for 90 minutes, so when you have to suffer then you have to suffer and we need a bit of luck sometimes like every team (does).

"Our challenge at home is to play well and play better than we have, there was signs against Tottenham and Chelsea but again where we are at the moment to compete with those teams is difficult because we have to be perfect and we were not perfect."

Potter has a lot of praise for Glasner

Finally, he commented on this weekend's opponents and stated that he has been highly impressed by Palace under manager Oliver Glasner who has led them to 9th place so far.

"Clearly they are doing a lot right. FA Cup winners and in to Europe and I think they have done a fantastic job in terms of how they've built that project.

"Under the coach and under the board they have worked together. They have lots of good players who clearly know what they are doing in out and of possession, we have to focus on ourselves and see how we can make it a problem for them as well."
