Ange Postecoglou has spoken on being let go by Nottingham Forest earlier this season.

The Australian lasted just 39 days in charge of Forest after losing six and drawing two of his games in charge in what was a disastrous move.

A 3-0 loss at home to Chelsea was the final straw for owner Evangelos Marinakis who sacked the former Tottenham boss who now reveals that he was glad to leave after such a poor decision to join the side.

"It was brutal. I was in the coaches’ room. I knew it could come any day, but they sacked me straight after the game. I hadn’t done the presser yet, but the press knew," he said. "I was walking into the corridors.

“I wanted to leave; otherwise I was going to do something I regret. I wanted to get out of there. All the roads were blocked. After half an hour, the roads opened.

“I got stuck at the traffic lights for 15 minutes. I had Chelsea fans giving it to me, Forest fans weren’t much kinder, and then I had little kids coming up and asking for a selfie.

“It didn’t leave any marks on me as a person or a football manager. If anything, it allowed me to know that next time, I will seek some counsel before I bite off more than I can chew.”

Postecoglou left Spurs at the end of last season after guiding the north London club to Europa League glory in Bilbao, ending their exhausting 17-year wait for silverware.

He has since been linked with a move back to the club as they creep closer to relegation. Interim boss Igor Tudor is likely to be replaced and reports suggest Postecoglou is near the top of the list of potential candidates.
