Amorim was sacked last Monday after the 1-1 draw followed by his comments aimed at the board. The Portuguese coach is now searching for a new job half way through the season in what is a tough job market.
Amorim won't return to the Premier League
Speaking to Casinostugan, Meulensteen has revealed that Amorim will not return to the Premier League anytime soon after what was a failed spell with the Red Devils.
“It depends what he's looking for. I doubt there would be teams in the Premier League quick to jump at the opportunity to bring him in because of his record in the Premier League.
“Back in Portugal? Yes. I think there's obviously clubs that would look at him because he's won the league there and he’s better suited to it.
“It almost becomes more and more difficult to sustain that sort of success. Look at Xabi Alonso. Look at what he did at Bayer Leverkusen. He goes to Real Madrid, everybody thought that it was a marriage made in heaven, and seven months on he’s gone. But that won’t tarnish Alonso to the same extent because of what he did in Germany. That speaks for itself.
“For Amorim, it’s slightly different. He hasn’t got such a record behind him. But I’m sure he’ll be back in management somehow.”
Amorim to Man City?
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is coming to the end of his time in the English top flight and reports have suggested a number of top coaches to replace him.
Meulensteen says one of those faces will not be Amorim, however, as the club know all about how poor his record was at United.
“Will Manchester City still look at Ruben Amorim? I don't think that will be the same situation now after what he's done at Manchester United, the style that they played, the points that they picked up.
"There's no hiding from behind the facts and stats. I can't see that happening in the future.”
Michael Carrick has since been appointed on an interim basis until the end of the season and will lead the side against rivals Manchester City this weekend as Amorim watches from the outside.
