Since Nick Cox’s departure for Everton as technical director was confirmed in June, The Red Devils have been on the lookout for a replacement which they have now found in Torpey who will join the side in the next few months while Cox remains at the side to ensure a smooth transition.
It's an honour to join the side
Torpey has been with the Bees since January 2024 and previously spent time as the head of academy coaching at fierce rivals Manchester City. The 43-year-old said it’s an honour to join the club and he hopes to continue the club’s identity within the academy as they boost young players into the first team.
“It is obviously a great time to be joining as the club enters an exciting new era,” Torpey said upon his appointment.
“I can’t wait to play my role in continuing the incredible tradition of youth development here.
“After spending time with the leadership team, it is clear that the academy will always remain key to the identity of Manchester United, with our primary aim being to produce players ready to support a first team capable of challenging for the biggest honours.”
What Torpey will bring to United
Torpey also coached at Liverpool and takes charge of all of United’s youth development system in what is an exciting move for the club. Jason Wilcox, Manchester United's director of football also commented on the move and what Torpey will bring to the side.
