Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has explained how he scored his world class freekick against Marseille.

Szoboszlai became the first Liverpool star to score multiple free kicks in a season since Trent Alexander-Arnold in what is a remarkable feat for the Hungarian international.

Szoboszlai fired a clever free-kick under the Marseille wall for their opener in first-half stoppage time, his shot went low under the wall which jumped to try and block his shot which breezed past goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli

Speaking after the game, the 25-year-old explained why he went for that type of freekick which stunned fans who have been impressed with the playmaker so far this season.

“Yeah, I did my homework.

“I got told that if no-one is lying down maybe I can have a chance to hit it under the wall and no-one was lying down so I tried it, and it worked out.”

Liverpool have been crying out for a dead-ball specialist since the Alexander-Arnold's departure to Real Madrid in the summer and Szoboszlai has now stepped up to be the player who can find the back of the net from such situations.

Victory in Marseille has handed the Reds the chance not merely to secure a top-eight finish but potentially a top-four slot too as they push on to the next round.
