The Hale End graduate has had a rapid rise through the ranks under Arteta over the past two years and has become pivotal under Arteta, who has allowed the teenager to thrive amongst the first team.
Lewis-Skelly scored on his England debut in Thomas Tuchel's opening match in charge in March, and has since been fighting for a place in the Arsenal side with Riccardo Calafiori in what is a health competition.
Speaking this week, the young defender has admitted that he will never stop fighting for a place in the side, which only boosts his performances in an Arsenal shirt even more.
“I’m enjoying it. It’s a different experience for me, not playing as much at the moment, but I’m enjoying being part of the team.
“It’s important to compete for places and I’m a competitive person, so I’m never going to back down. I enjoy the challenge. Being with these boys is a joy.
“The standards are high and everyone wants to play. Because the levels are so much higher this season, places are short, but you’ve just got to compete.
“At the end of the day, I just want to express myself. Football’s what I love and I’ll never make excuses if I am playing or not.
“I just want to go out there and express myself. As long as I’m doing that, I’m giving the gaffer a choice to make.”
The England star usurped the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney in the past few years but looks to have met his match with Calafiori, who is constantly fighting alongside him in Arsenal’s title race.
