Regis Le Bris has hailed Sunderland’s resilience after they snatched a dramatic stoppage-time draw against Premier League leaders Arsenal at the Stadium of Light.

Dan Ballard opened the scoring with a powerful strike after Nordi Mukiele’s header from a free-kick fell into his path. However, the Gunners overturned the deficit through Bukayo Saka’s sharp near-post finish and Leandro Trossard’s precise effort from the edge of the box.

Just when it seemed the Black Cats would leave empty-handed, substitute Brian Brobbey struck in stoppage time, outmuscling David Raya and Cristhian Mosquera to flick home Ballard’s header into an empty net.

“We showed our character and togetherness once again,” Le Bris told the media.

“We struggled as expected against a really strong squad who had many different options to cause trouble for your defence.

“Even when we went through difficult moments, we showed that it was possible to change the dynamic and create something.

“We had to be the best Sunderland possible in different phases.

“The first half was interesting because we were balanced, organised out of possession, and really difficult to beat - but we also had the ability to threaten the opponent from set-pieces.”

The result moves Sunderland up to third in the table on 19 points and keeps their impressive home unbeaten run intact.
