Soon-to-be Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly pushing the club to make a move for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

The 63-year-old’s return to Real Madrid is set to be confirmed imminently after Benfica confirmed the Spanish giants have paid his €15 million release clause.

It’s widely expected that Mourinho will oversee a busy summer transfer window at the club as they seek to end their two-year trophy drought.

According to AS, Mourinho is pushing the club to make a move for West Ham midfielder Fernandes, 21, despite Premier League interest.

The Athletic recently reported that the relegated side are demanding a fee of around £85 million for the Portugal international.

Man United have also been heavily linked with a move while Chelsea are keeping tabs on the situation, but their lack of European football makes it unlikely.
