Former Sweden international and Liverpool fan Tobias Hysen admits Alexander Isak's situation could've been handled better.

Isak was left out of Newcastle's squad for today's draw at Aston Villa as he pushes to be sold to Liverpool.

Hysen, who was at Anfield for Liverpool's win against Bournemouth last night, told FotbollTransfers.com: "You should never keep a player who doesn't want to be in one place - but at the same time, somewhere, it was good to sign that contract when you knew you had 3-4 years of guaranteed money.

"You probably negotiated a damn good salary in the contract you actually signed and then you got a little bit of what you wanted.

"Then somehow trying to get out of it the wrong way, I think, is the wrong way to go. Unfortunately, there is a lot of evidence that this is where we have ended up. You can look at it in different ways. The clubs are getting rid of players left and right when they don't want a player. The climate will be like this, I suppose."

The IFK Göteborg icon does not doubt Isak's qualities, but at the same time questions the race against time.

"If you ask me if I want Alexander Isak at Liverpool, I answer 'yes' every day of the week, but everything has a price. The season starts soon and considering that three offensive players have disappeared for various reasons, at least one more must come in.

"If you trust that you can get Isak in before the window closes, there is no rush, but it seems more difficult than it first seemed and maybe you will have to - which Liverpool will certainly do - go down a different path."
