Newcastle ended their five-game losing streak across all competitions to ease the pressure on manager Eddie Howe.
Howe’s side are now just five points off seventh place in the Premier League, with ten mid-table sides all battling it out for European qualification.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Guimaraes, 28, insists that “Europe is the dream” for Newcastle.
"It felt very good, in the changing room before he game we knew today was important for us, chasing European football for next season. The points are crucial, we keep dreaming and believing,” he said
"It was a tough game, Brighton are a good team. Today for everything we have done we deserve the win.
"They had a lot of chances. In the first half we were better but second half they were better. I am glad we could keep three points.
"We are looking up not down. We can still play European football next season, we must win the next three games."
On returning from injury: "Amazing, very good after 10 weeks out. First big injury of my career. I am still chasing my best physical level, but today I did a good performance."
