Former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song has boldly declared that he would start ahead of current midfield duo Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi.

Now 38 years old, Song retired from football in 2023 having not only played for Arsenal, but Spanish giants Barcelona and West Ham too.

Song joined the Gunners in 2005 for a reported £1 million after arriving on trial from Bastia and went on to make 204 appearances.

In an interview with ESPN Africa, Song was asked if he felt he could make the starting XI for some of Europe’s top teams.

“Alex Song would start for those clubs,” he was asked before naming a series of major sides, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and even his former club Arsenal.

Tottenham, though, was dismissed outright: “No. I will never play for Tottenham. Never! It will never happen!”
