As reported by The Sun, the former Chelsea star suffered an alveolar fracture, the bone supports the teeth and the midfielder suffered a number of broken teeth.

Reports state that his recovery will take several weeks, ruling him out of the World Cup in what is a devastating blow for him and manager Thomas Tuchel who will have to rely on other talent.

He made his first England appearance in seven years when he came on as a substitute against Wales in October when he was recalled by Tuchel who may struggle to find a replacement.

Mariano Troilo scored the winner for Parma in the 80th minute, meaning AC Milan are now second in the standings, but already ten points behind bitter rivals Inter Milan who beat Lecce 2-0 on Saturday to claim their seventh league win in a row.

AC Milan return to action this weekend when they host relegation-battling Cremonese at the San Siro as they aim to catch up to Inter who are running away with the title.
