Edwards said afterwards: “We’re in a results business, so I feel really flat now because I felt we should have taken something from the game. I think everyone could see that. I know at the end there’ll be people that will be angry and disappointed because we’ve lost again.

“But in the cold light of day, when I look at it back, it was a good performance. I thought we started the game really, really well. For the first 20 minutes, I thought we were excellent, really good.

“But then I thought we made a few errors that played into their hands, we gave the ball away in some loose areas and the goal was obviously a real highlight for them and playing the game that they want.”

The manager also said: "There are times where I look and I really like us. But I want us to be more aggressive, I want us to create more chances and I want to be able to dominate the ball, but go somewhere with it as well, not just have it for the sake of it.

“But we are showing more of it – there’s no doubt about that. There’s more bravery there, there’s more cohesion, there’s more connection there, but in the end, that’s got to transmit to creating chances. It did today, but then, ultimately, we’ve got to score goals off the back of that.”
