Newcastle United could condemn West Ham United to relegation in Sunday's Premier League showdown at St James' Park depending on the result between Tottenham and Chelsea next Tuesday.
West Ham are fighting for their lives whilst the Magpies are coasting towards a league finish which is well below their expectations after a very disappointing season.
Gordon to leave?
Newcastle’s European hopes are all but over and a loss to West Ham would put the final nail in the coffin. Howe, whose future is under question, first spoke on his summer plans as Anthony Gordon is linked with a move away from the side.
"No. Nothing. No updates. These are discussions that might potentially be happening, but there's nothing from me."
“If it's the right thing for the team (Gordon leaving). And as I say, I put the team and the club above any individual, then I would play him of course.
"At this stage of the season you always have an eye on the future. We are going into a summer where there are a lot of unknowns for us and there will be a lot of change for us. There is an eye on next season."
Howe knows the season has been poor
Newcastle have little but pride to play for at the end of a forgettable campaign as they seek to regroup and rebuild this summer.
When asked how he will look back on this season, Howe admits he has mixed feelings.
“I suppose time will tell, to a degree, but I think my initial thought now in response to that question is I will look back with probably mixed feelings.
“Some major, major highs, some great experiences, some memorable games, successful games for us and then some challenges and some periods where we’ve had to dig really deep and question ourselves and try to come back fighting.
“So a real mixture, probably different to the other seasons that I’ve had here, which have been more… not consistent success because it’s never like that, but more a feeing of smoothness through the season, of invariably positive feelings.
“This one has been a challenge."
