Arne Slot has just broken unwanted Premier League record at Liverpool

Liverpool's misery under Arne Slot continued on Friday night against Aston Villa.

The Reds suffered a 4-2 defeat at Villa Park, with an Ollie Watkins brace and strikes from John McGinn and Morgan Rogers cancelling out Virgil van Dijk's two goals.

Villa secured Champions League football as a result, moving three points ahead of Liverpool, while Slot looks nervously over his shoulder ahead of the final two games.

Bournemouth and Brighton can still leapfrog the Merseyside giants into fifth and sixth position, respectively, if they win their last two matches and the Reds lose to Brentford at Anfield.

It's an unlikely scenario, but not completely out of the question, and it just proves how far Liverpool have fallen since winning the Premier League title 12 months ago.

Liverpool look bereft of confidence, structure and defensive solidity under Slot, and the majority of the fanbase have called for him to be sacked.

But it appears the club are going to stick by him heading into the summer, and that seems a highly questionable decision since they've just broken an unwanted Premier League record.

Slot's men have now conceded 52 goals in the Premier League this season after shipping four at Villa, the most across any 38-game campaign.

Surely, that points to the Dutchman being shown the exit door, but only time will tell.
