Astrit Ajdarevic admits he was amazed by the welcome he received during a recent visit to former club Liverpool.

Now retired at the age of 35, Ajdarevic hadn't visited Liverpool for 17 years, having joined the club as a 16 year-old from Sweden.

He recalled on Transferpodden on Fotbolltransfers.com: "I went back now after 17 years. I haven't been there in 17 years.

"I come in... 'Astrit!' And who am I? Who the hell am I? They open the doors. What do you need - come to the training facility, watch the first team, have lunch with us, dinner with us, talk to someone?

"Everyone opens the doors for me. Would they have done that in Sweden? Doubtful."

On that first year at Liverpool, Ajdarevic also said: "The first year was terrible. I left school, my friends, my family. It's starting to get a little softer now where you talk about feelings and mental health, but back then it wasn't like that.

"You weren't allowed to cry. You weren't allowed to show emotions, show yourself weak. You had to show that you were a man and run over everyone. And that's how I was raised."
