The experienced midfielder has spent his entire club career with Los Rojiblancos after emerging from their youth ranks and into the first team in 2009.
Across 17 seasons at the club – with seven as captain – Koke has racked up a whopping 519 LaLiga appearances and 740 overall for Diego Simeone's side.
Those tallies puts him top of both lists for Atletico and the 34-year-old is 12th on LaLiga’s all-time list, behind Barcelona icon Lionel Messi.
As part of a sensational career of longevity at the Estadio Metropolitano, Koke has also won two LaLiga titles, two UEFA Europa League crowns and one Copa del Rey.
However, ahead of his return to preseason training later this month, the club informed his representatives of an offer landing from the USA - with the final decision resting with the player himself.
After key talks with Simeone, the 34-year-old has now chosen to activate a rolling clause to extend his contract for at least another 12 months, in a major boost for the club's summer plans.
Retaining Koke reduced the need to rush into signing a new central midfielder and Simeone is now expected to chose between Manu Kone and Morten Hjulmand.
