The Madrid-born midfielder has spent his entire club career at Atletico after graduating from their youth ranks and into the first team back in 2009.
Across an incredible 17 seasons at the club – with seven as captain – Koke has amassed 519 LaLiga appearances and 740 overall for Los Rojiblancos.
That puts him top of both lists for his club and the 34-year-old is 12th on LaLiga’s all-time list, just behind Barcelona icon Lionel Messi.
As part of a sensational career of longevity at the Estadio Metropolitano, Koke has also won two LaLiga titles, two UEFA Europa League crowns and one Copa del Rey.
However, he faces a key call on his future, as Simeone looks to bring in new midfielders this summer, with firm transfer links to Manu Kone and Kang-in Lee as part of a rebuild in Madrid.
Koke has 12 months left to run on his current contract, so any exit call will be left in his hands, with transfer expert Matteo Moretto claiming Atlanta could be his next destination.
All parties are happy to wait until the 2026 FIFA World Cup is wrapped up, but Atlanta want Koke to join by August, despite the potential of needing to pay a fee to land him.
MLS has proven to be popular destination for departing LaLiga stars following Messi's move to Inter Miami in 2023 with Koke's former midfield partner Rodrigo De Paul joining his Argentinian compatriot in Florida alongside a strong ex-Barcelona contingent at the club.
Simeone’s own future now looks to be resolved, despite rumours he could break his contract and move on, but the Argentinian is now prepared to remain in place.
