Atletico rejected a £130m offer for Alvarez from La Liga rivals Real Madrid earlier in June and are said to be remaining stubborn on their price as they refuse to sell this summer.
When asked about his future this week, the 26-year-old stated that he is fully focused on the World Cup with Argentina as his side prepares to face Switzerland.
As the transfer saga continued, Yamal sent a message to Alvarez who, despite his €500M release clause, looks like he could make the switch to Barcelona over the coming weeks.
“Everyone knows he's a top player, the kind everyone wants to play for. I've already said it: we're open to welcoming him, and if he comes, we'll all be very happy. I think he's a great fit for Barca's style. I have no idea what the situation is, but I hope so.
"He is coming to the best club in the world, the best fans in the world, and the best city in the world, in my opinion. So, if I were him, I'd do it. If he wants to come, we are waiting for him, go ahead.”
The Catalans are expected to make another attempt to land Alvarez which is expected shortly after having their first bid rejected.
Alvarez joined Atletico from Manchester City for £81.5M in the summer of 2024 and has scored 49 goals in 106 games, as well as providing 17 assists, for the Spanish giants who are keen to keep hold of him despite constant attention.
