Inter Miami defender Alba announced he will retire at the end of this season earlier this week in what was a shock announcement. The Spaniard was a part of the Barcelona and Spain sides that dominated football over a decade ago, and his former teammates have now reacted to the news.
Messi, who proudly played alongside Alba with Barcelona between 2012 and 2021 before joining him at Inter Miami in recent years, was the first to comment on his decision.
"Thanks to you, Jordi. I am going to miss you a lot. After many things together, it's going to feel strange to look to my left and not see you there.
"It's crazy how many assists you've given me over all these years. Who is going to give me those passes from behind now?”
Neymar, who also played alongside Alba at Barcelona wrote: "You are huge, brother. Big hug folleti."
Finally, Miami teammate Suarez also stated: "Brother, what to say. You're a crack, to enjoy what's left."
The 36 year old only signed a contract extension with Miami in May, a deal that was due to run until the end of 2027. He will try and sign off his career with MLS Cup glory as his side enter the playoffs this season.
