Newcastle won Saturday's tie on penalties after the score finished 3-3 at the end of extra-time.
Howe told Chronicle Live: "The aim is to win and if we can win by entertaining, then great and that's what we plan to do. Today, we don't want to concede three goals, that's not in our preparation. We're disappointed with the goals we have conceded.
"But I thought it was open and I thought it was end-to-end and both teams gave everything to try to get through. I thought it was a good advert for the FA Cup. We took it seriously, they took it seriously, so in the end I think both teams come out with real credit."
Howe admits he's having to juggle his numbers as Newcastle remain alive in four competitions.
He continued: "That was the plan with the recruitment work that we did to enable the squad to be robust enough, strong enough, have enough depth.
"The only thing it doesn't cover really is if you get injuries to one position and we've consistently had that in our backline for the last couple of months. That's why I think the players have done incredibly well to stay the right side of things, keep winning games, and come through any dips that we have.
"Of course, you need versatile players as well and that's where Lewie Miley has been a real find for us. We used him again today in the right-back position.
"Look, we'll keep fighting, that's all we can do and keep trying to win as many games as we can."
