Former Chelsea and Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling is set to leave Dutch club Feyenoord after just two months.

The England international left Chelsea by mutual consent in January and joined Feyenoord in February in a move that reports state was a huge financial effort for the club.

At 31 years old, the winger was faced with severe criticism from the Dutch press after a 0-0 stalemate with FC Volendam earlier this month as fans and pundits grew frustrated with his dire performances.

Now, The Mirror and the Liverpool Echo report that the former Premier League star will depart once the season is over in what has been a failed move for Sterling who has not impressed on the pitch for a number of years.

Former Feyenoord star Willem van Hanegem sent a clear message to Sterling after his latest setback, calling for him to hang up his boots and relax.

“If I were Feyenoord, I’d ask for a refund and simply tell him to go home. He’s not helping anyone. He should go to Ibiza, put on his swimsuit, and eat paella with his wife,” he claimed.

Following four consecutive league starts, Sterling found himself amongst the substitutes for the Eredivisie stalemate against NEC Nijmegen where he did not get his chance on the pitch.

Sterling will depart Feyenoord, who currently occupy second place in the Eredivisie, yet find themselves 19 points adrift of leaders PSV Eindhoven who are set to lift the title this season.
