Owner Dejphon Chansiri has been the subject of SWFC fan protests for some time, and it looks like the club’s troubles are now coming to boiling points as the BBC report that the Championship side will be handed a winding-up petition.
A winding-up petition is a formal court application, usually filed by a creditor, to force an insolvent company into compulsory liquidation. It would increase the pressure on Chansiri to sell.
Chansiri has not engaged in a proper sales process according to reports despite the side already being under five separate EFL embargoes after failing to pay wages on time in five of the past seven months.
The BBC report that the club owe around £1M in unpaid debt, which will only increase widespread protests as the club crumbles even further. Daily Mail Sport revealed that US businessman John Textor has been in talks to take over the club, but no progress has been made as of yet.
A winding-up order could result in Chansiri finally doing something to settle their problems, but expectations are low as the saga continues for one of England’s oldest clubs.
