Wayne Rooney has hit back at NFL legend Tom Brady after comments that questioned his footballing approach while in charge of Birmingham City.

Brady, who is part owner of Birmingham City, openly questioned Rooney’s “work ethic” in the Brady & The Blues documentary, released earlier in the summer.

Rooney was later sacked by the club in January 2024 with Birmingham City later relegated to League One from the Championship.

The Blues have since made their way back to England’s second tier, drawing 1-1 with Ipswich in their opener.

The former England and Man United forward has since pushed back against Brady’s criticism, branding it “unfair.”

Speaking to The Athletic, he said: “I saw that last week from Tom Brady. I think it was a very unfair comment.

“I think Tom came in once, which was the day before a game where the days are a little bit lighter anyway, and I don’t think he really understood football that well. But what he does understand is, he’s a hard worker, we know that.

“Football is not the NFL. NFL works for three months a year. Players do need rest as well, so I think it was very unfair, the way he’s come out and portrayed that.”
