Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has vowed to take legal action if his side lose the Play-off final to Middlesbrough this weekend.

Southampton were expelled from the Championship play-offs for spying on opponents, with their place in the final against Hull City instead taken by Middlesbrough, who they had beaten in the semis.

This time last year, Hull were one game away from dropping to League One and they now find themselves in a play-off final surrounded by controversy.

The Tigers had prepared to face Southampton before they were expelled and replaced by Middlesbrough, meaning that their final chances took a dent before the game had even begun.

Now, Hull owner Acun Ilicali has vowed to take legal action even his side loses the game at Wembley, a loss which would cost the club between £180M and £220M.

"Our legal team says that we have to go for action, that's for sure," Ilicali told BBC Radio Humberside outside Wembley Stadium before kick-off this afternoon.

"So we have no doubt about it. Here, all we want is justice. If justice is broken, nobody will enjoy football."

Head coach Sergej Jakirovic feels that his team have been "collateral damage" due to the oppnent change and as more than 30,000 supporters make their way to Wembley, the feeling that the East Yorkshire side are underdogs is growing stronger and stronger.

However, Hull will take comfort from having won their previous two Championship playoff finals in 2008 and 2016, both by a 1-0 scoreline as they aim to make history.
