Olympique Lyonnais youngster Khalis Merah is expected to be sidelined for around a month after suffering a sprained ankle in a training collision.

According to L’Equipe, the 19-year-old midfielder could therefore miss the first leg of the club’s Champions League third qualifying round, set for early August, pending further updates on his rehabilitation.

The setback is a blow for the club’s new number 18, who had spent the off-season focused on fitness work rather than rest.

Merah broke into the first team during pre-season preparations for the 2025/26 campaign and quickly established himself as a rising talent under Paulo Fonseca, going on to make 32 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and providing two assists.

The French Under-20 international, born in Meyzieu, remains under contract with Lyon until June 2029.
