Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has backed the club to all the way and win the Champions League.

The Reds have picked up four wins from their last five in all competitions, with their last clash ending with the Premier League champions tearing apart Brighton in the FA Cup.

However, despite their form picking up, Liverpool are still 6th in the league as fans begin to worry if the club has what it takes to secure Champions League football next season.

Speaking to OLBG, Heskey revealed that Liverpool should not do what Ange Postecoglou did last season and fully focus on European football for the final stage of the campaign.

“I don’t think Liverpool have the consistency to really put themselves over the line (to reach the top four) but they’ve still got a chance. If they win the Champions League they are still in it for next season, so there’s that opportunity.

“We say that and then we’d still complain! I wouldn’t want him to do that to be honest because you just never know.

“You see it at the end of the season every season people slip up all the time so if you can get that momentum in the league, then you've done everything you can then, haven't you?

“I’d rather they keep pushing in the league than putting all their eggs in that basket in case it might not come off.”

Europe has been something of a saving grace for Liverpool but if Slot does focus on success away from the Premier League, he could risk failing to secure Champions League football which would then put his job at risk.
