Everton boss David Moyes has spoken to the press as his side prepare to face Chelsea this weekend.

Moyes is winless in all 20 of his Premier League away matches at Stamford Bridge (D7 L13) and will aim to end that record on Saturday afternoon with a win that could push his side into the top four.

The Toffees are seeking to win a third consecutive top-flight away match without conceding for the first time since December 2008 in what looks to be a winnable game against the Blues, who are without a victory in December.

AFCON must be respected

Moyes first spoke on the Africa Cup of Nations which begins later this month when Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye will both depart the side.

"We have to respect completely the Africa Cup of Nations," added Moyes. "The players will go to play in the tournament for their countries, and rightly so. It's a great thing they get selected for their countries, and we hope they do well.

"Obviously, I don't think it's something that's ever pleased any manager at any club that you have to lose your players, but we've got them for this weekend, then we'll wish them well."

Team news

As players prepare to leave for AFCON, Moyes provided team news as he aims to rotate his side over the next month whilst a number of players represent their country over 2000 miles away.

"Jarrad Branthwaite and Merlin Rohl are back on the grass and doing some work.

"Merlin is obviously much further on than Jarrad but they're both back on the grass and hopefully we're starting to see a chance to get them back soon. It would be a big help."

Finally, Moyes commented on striker Thierno Barry scoring his first goal for the club last time out against Nottingham Forest which will have been a huge relief.

"His mood has changed greatly (since the goal), but I had sensed that for a little while before it. He has settled in more now, he is training better, he is looking more comfortable in the actions we're asking him to do.

"I was pleased he got his goal because, as a striker, you are judged by the goals you get. The goal has hugely made a difference in him."
