Nigeria defender Igoh Ogbu will miss the Super Eagles’ international friendly against Portugal after suffering an Achilles tendon injury in training.

According to Super Eagles Media Officer Promise Efoghe, the Slavia Prague centre-back picked up the injury during Saturday’s session in Leiria and will return to his club to begin treatment and rehabilitation.

“Defender, Igho Ogbu has been ruled out of the friendly against Portugal after sustaining an injury in training this evening. Team medics describe the situation as a suspected rupture of his left achilles tendon,” Efoghe stated.

The 26-year-old recently featured in both of Nigeria’s matches at the Unity Cup invitational tournament and started Wednesday’s 2-2 draw against Poland before being replaced by Semi Ajayi at half-time.

His absence is a setback for head coach Eric Chelle ahead of Wednesday’s friendly against Portugal at the Estádio Municipal Dr. Magalhaes Pessoa in Leiria.
