It is still unclear for which year the DFB will be allowed and will actually submit a bid. A World Cup can only be held on the same continent every twelve years. Although the 2030 tournament will take place worldwide, since the majority of matches will be played in Spain and Portugal, the DFB assumes that Europe will not host again until 2042.
A formal bid for the World Cup has not yet been submitted to FIFA—the application process has not started yet. It would be the first world tournament in Germany since the "Summer Fairytale" of 2006. In 2024, the European Championship was also held in Germany.
Stadiums likely not an issue
As a host, Germany would need to provide 14 stadiums with a capacity of at least 40,000 seats. The planned venues are Berlin, Bremen, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Hanover, Kaiserslautern, Cologne, Leipzig, Mönchengladbach, Munich, and Stuttgart.
Many clubs are hopeful that hosting a World Cup would bring in additional funds for modernizing their stadiums.
