Former Liverpool defender Abel Xavier can see Ruben Amorim moving to Anfield.

The Sporting CP coach is being discussed at Liverpool as a potential successor for Jurgen Klopp.

Xavier told BBC Sport: “His destiny is to leave Sporting Lisbon and when you have three or four possibilities in these major clubs, his name is going to be always in one of the top clubs for sure. 100 percent.

"I know him very well. We ended the (UEFA coaching) pro licence (course) together, and Ruben impressed me a lot. (He is) very humble, discreet, and has a very clear mindset.

"He's under contract and he doesn't want to create a distraction because for the first time in long years, Sporting can win the double. But I believe honestly, and I think pretty much everyone believes, that the cycle of Ruben Amorim at Sporting Lisbon is going to end very soon.

"With a lot of respect to Sporting Lisbon, I would like to see Ruben Amorim at Liverpool, and I think that he will be... the correct person after Klopp."
