Liverpool boss Klopp explains Gakpo derby absence

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has explained why he was without a key forward this week.

The Reds had to take on Everton at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Wednesday night, losing 2-0.

After the game, Klopp talked about the reason behind Cody Gakpo's absence from the devastating loss.

Pre-game, he told Sky Sports: "Not only [to keep things fresh], two of them are not available tonight.

"Diogo [Jota] is injured and Cody probably has the best excuse of all! Timing is not great, but much more important, right now they [Gakpo and his partner] are expecting a baby; now, maybe!

"So, these are two changes we had to make. And then [in] midfield [it] makes sense, the boys played together before. We need fresh legs today as much as we can. Ibou coming back, I don't know who else, I don't think it's too many besides that.

"We meet a good team, we have a good team and now we have to play good football."
