Brighton defender Joel Veltman admits they need to learn from defeat to Roma.

Roma hammered Brighton 4-0 in the first-leg of their Europa League tie.

Veltman said: "We can learn more from defeats than victories, this is one of those matches from which we can learn a lot. Roma have played many more European matches than us, you can also see it from the details. It's something new for us, we have to learn from this defeat and take the positive things.

"If I have to be honest I can say that we weren't ourselves tonight, we didn't play as we know how and there is a bit of disappointment. We have several injured people, but that shouldn't be an alibi. We are a team, it doesn't matter who plays from the start, we want to play with our style. Great credit to Roma who prevented us from playing as we know, we have to improve. The 4-0 is a heavy result, especially when there is still a second leg to play.

"There's another match to play right away on Sunday, that's the beauty of football. We're happy to play straight away and not have to wait a week, we have to prepare as best we can for the next match."
