Arsenal boss Arteta: Derby win all about desire; how much do we want it?

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta lavished praise on attacker Kai Havertz yesterday.

The Germany international scored in a dramatic 3-2 win over Tottenham in the Premier League.

Post-game, Arteta said of his talented forward: “He was sensational in every department today. He wasn't at 100%. He was ill before the match, he was a bit struggling and still he put the performance that he put in. I thought he was unbelievable today."

On the way his team has improved after a poor start to April, he added: “First of all, how much you want it and how much they want it. Don't feel sorry for yourself. It's part of the journey.

“When you're at the highest level you're going to have disappointments. At this level the margins are so small and they're not always going to go for you.

“Then it's about how you react to that. Face the challenge, face the opportunity. I think this team has a lot of courage and determination to make it happen."

On his faith in the players, he concluded: “Yeah definitely. In the last few minutes I was doubting it a bit. But they give me no reason [to doubt]. I told you before they were going to be ready on Sunday.

“Emotionally it's been a very demanding month, but yesterday I had to stop them in training because they wanted more. That's a good sign."
