At today's presentation, Spalletti explained the decision to take the job after this week's dismissal of Igor Tudor.

He also discussed agreeing only to a deal to the end of this season, while also considering the quality of the players he is inheriting.

Spalletti began today: "They're wonderful feelings, because we all know the history of this club and we know there's great expectation, but joining it is always a wonderful feeling.

"The desire to bring this club back to the top is paramount. I have great respect for Tudor's work, and I salute him warmly, because he's a wonderful person and a true professional. I'm confident I'll find a team in good mental condition and well-trained thanks to the professionalism of those who preceded me.

"We need to work hard to have a chance of achieving the ambitions I mentioned earlier. I'm happy to be here, and I thank director Comolli for his kind words. He forces me to always speak Italian with him, and he's made my life easier, so I can understand what I'm saying."

On his ideas about the squad, Spalletti also stated: "The idea lies in having accepted. If I didn't believe this team had potential, despite having gone through difficult times, why would I have accepted an eight-month contract?

"I think I can do a good job with them because that's where availability, self-discipline, and the will to achieve important results come from. I see the possibility of fixing some things. The intentions and goals are different; for a club like Juve, we need to get back into the Champions League. We have to do a good job and get things back on track because the others are running strong."

Overhauling team spirit

On what he wants from Juve's players, Spalletti admits he is seeking self-discipline.

He explained, "Self-discipline makes the difference. As a child, I hitchhiked around, and I had the opportunity to enter almost every locker room in almost every football category.

"I always did so with respect for for everyone I met, even knowing if the opposing team's kitman had a dog or cat so I could surprise him by saying hello.

"Attention, hard work, and a willingness to become friends in the locker room, through the collaboration that we share, any team with these qualities then wakes up and bang: they're at a higher level.

"Affection, self-discipline... my teammate scored that goal, he was considered a conscious player, but perhaps I could have done something more... a willingness to share skills and mistakes. Attention and care that is noticed."
