On Friday, an audio clip was published on social media in which Lotito can be heard in a phone conversation with a supporter.
The clip was spread by the Instagram account Palla O Campo and quickly attracted a lot of attention in the Italian media.
During the conversation, several insults were exchanged between the parties.
Lotito is heard, among other things, questioning claims about the club's finances and verbally attacking the supporter.
What, however, aroused the greatest reaction was a statement about the relationship between the players and the coach.
"You sell players for 60 million euros and buy them for 30. The coach doesn't even know why he's there, the players want to leave. These are facts," says the supporter in the conversation.
"The players want to leave because they don't want the coach. They are angry with the coach," Lotito replies.
After the audio clip became public, Lotito issued an official statement later that day.
The president says he is surprised by how his words have been interpreted.
"I am sincerely surprised at how some of my words have been distorted, taken out of context and released without any real context," Lotito said.
At the same time, he states that the club's stance has not changed.
"I want to be clear once and for all. There are no players at Lazio who are against the coach. Maurizio Sarri has the full confidence of the club, along with the total availability and respect of the squad."
