The Reds have lost five times in 11 games this season, failing to pick up a point on their trips to Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Brentford, and City. Liverpool’s title hopes look to be over, and their summer spend has not worked out so far. A prime example of this failed rebuild is Wirtz.
The German international has shown flashes of creativity, but has yet to show his true self under manager Arne Slot. Wirtz has 0 goals or assists in the Premier League so far and while many think he is a scapegoat, he is yet to live up to his price tag.
In his exclusive interview with Snabbare, Yorke spoke on a number of topics, including Wirtz who he believes is a huge problem for Slot as he battles to balance his side.
"Isak could be the nine. Ekitike can play wide. But you won’t know until Slot is forced into trying it. He might go that way, like how Sir Alex fell into what worked for me and Coley (Andy Cole).
"The problem Liverpool have got is Florian Wirtz. That might cause a little bit of an issue because of the money he has come in on too.
“But Slot has to trust himself and trust his instincts on whether Ekitike and Isak can score goals together because they can both score goals as individuals. You’d think together they are only going to be a bigger threat for their opposition."
Wirtz has now failed to score or assist in any of his first 11 appearances in the Premier League, and it is clear that Slot has not managed to find how best to let him operate in the side so far.
As he continues to struggle, Wirtz will be at the forefront of debate surrounding the champions, who are suffering a terrible run of form in recent months. Slot has seen his side win just one league game since September 20th and Wirtz is key to fixing that form and jumping back into the title race.
