Yoane Wissa insists he sees his future with Newcastle United.

A preseason injury and more injury niggles since his return has hindered his progress and led to speculation of a summer sale.

"I didn't wait the proper time to come back (from injury). It should have definitely been more," Wissa said during an interview on Joel Beya's YouTube channel.

"When I first met the guys I was injured. The link-up with the players, pre-season is pre-season but you have a lot of friendly games to make mistakes and to say to the guys, try this. I missed that.

"You just want to catch the train, but that was impossible, because my knee wasn't right. I knew that but it is such a privilege to be there.

"I am a soldier. I will keep going. I want them  to know the love I have for this shirt. Looking forward to next season, I understand how big this club is, I hope I'm going to do better. To perform at Newcastle is something unbelievable for me.

"I know so many players struggle in their first year. I am looking forward. I hope I am going to have some goals towards the end. It's such a privilege. I just want to wear the shirt."
