Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has expressed his desire to leave this summer, but has not yet submitted a transfer request.

The Swedish international has been told to train alone, whilst reportedly insisting he will never play for Eddie Howe's side again. Isak took to Instagram to confirm his relationship with Newcastle was beyond repair and that certain promises have been broken which have severed the trust between him and the club.

At the beginning of August Liverpool submitted a £110M offer to their Premier League rivals, who swiftly rejected it and offered no counteroffer to try and agree a deal. Isak is stuck at the club but is yet to submit a transfer request to the club and manager Eddie Howe who hopes he will return to the side.

This is because formally handing in an official transfer request can lead to significant financial penalties for a player. It would also mean forfeiting significant contractual perks, like signing-on fees and loyalty bonuses, which would likely be millions of pounds for the striker that he does not want to risk.

It is likely that Isak will never put in a transfer request and will instead refuse to play for the Magpies who may be forced to sell him as he sits on the sidelines instead of performing on the pitch. It is clear that the side can get £100+ for the 25-year-old which could then be invested in other positions ahead of their domestic and European campaign.
