West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo admitted that remaining in the Premier League will be a "tough challenge" following their 3-0 defeat to Brentford on Saturday (May 2).

The East London club are now just two points above 18th placed Tottenham in the fight against Premier League relegation.

Should Spurs beat Champions League chasing Aston Villa on Sunday, they’ll leapfrog West Ham with three games left to play.

Speaking to reporters after the defeat to Brentford, West Ham manager Espirito Santo was downbeat regarding their chances.

“It’s going to be a big challenge for all of us with the impact of this tough day,” he said.

“We’ve got to look at other stadiums and see what’s going on.

“But that’s what I said to the boys: ‘Let’s keep together, let’s realise how we react from a bad day like today is going to keep us alive in the fight’.”

“We played a very good first half,” he added.

“The way we played, the way our game flowed, even though we conceded in the first situation off a cross, a couple of times we had bad luck in the other end.

“We didn’t achieve (a goal), we had chances with the post and we created a lot of problems for Brentford.

“So, we were positive in the first half, but then (after they scored) the penalty in the second half, we lost a bit of composure and organisation, and it became much harder.”
