Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has spoken on the squad and if the team is sticking together.

The Premier League champions Liverpool ended a five-game winless league run against Newcastle last weekend and have won their last two games by an aggregate score of 10-1 as they turn their form around.

The Reds currently sit sixth in the Premier League table and have had a harsh season so far which has seen them knocked out the EFL Cup and desperately trying to climb the table to the Champions League spots.

Is there something wrong with the Liverpool squad?

Many have questioned what happened to the side after last season’s success and this week, ahead of their clash with Manchester City, Van Dijk was asked if there is disharmony in the Liverpool camp.

"The matter of fact is we are Premier League champions, and we have not been good enough on a consistent basis.

"That's just a fact. The criticism comes and that's something we just have to accept. We just have to keep going. I don't think there has been any question about (togetherness) internally.

"I don't think there's any disharmony. There are obviously challenges that happen and everyone is dealing with certain situations in a different way.

"It's also about dealing with it together and how we are going to fix it and change things around. That's something that makes you stronger as a team and if you come out of it like we should do - hopefully as we have the quality - then I think it can only improve you as a team and as a player as well."

Liverpool’s title run is over but a win over Manchester City at the weekend could push the side into the top 4, the target for Van Dijk and manager Arne Slot as they try to salvage what’s left of the season. -
