The 21-year-old played a fairly prominent role for Ruben Amorim throughout pre-season, yielding a total of 132 minutes across their six games.
According to The Athletic, United have made the decision to ship him out on loan, however, and West Brom have won the race.
Collyer may be a little disappointed by the decision with the news of a loan coming after he made it clear he wanted to play for United as much as possible.
He told journalist Laurie Whitwell: "First and foremost, I want to be here (United) and play as many games for United as possible. I'll sit down with the manager and higher-ups and see what the best solution is for that, to develop, whether it's stay here or go on loan."
The midfielder is still highly-regarded at Old Trafford, hence why there will be no buy option included in any potential deal.
